Resume Submitted

It all began when you were sitting in the pub. Each of you in your own plane or country or land or ocean.

A strange man wearing fitted pants and what looks to be the strangest cloak you have ever seen walks in and directly up to you. His cloak is relatively short and only goes down to his hands. It is the same length in the front and the back and buttons in the front with one button. The fabric is black with very thin white lines going up and down. He is wearing a white shirt and there is a strap of cloth that seems to flow from the top of the collar and disappears under the cloak. His pants fabric matches the cloak and seems to have a sort of thin cuff at the bottom.

While it is aesthetically pleasing, in a strange and foreign way, there seems to be no armor on this idiot. He would get speared or sworded or murdered in a heartbeat if anyone was looking to rob him.

Strangely enough, no one in the pub seems to notice him and he walks directly up to you. “Your resume has been submitted.” The man takes off his asinine helmet that seems to be round with a brim and made of fabric and puts it on the table beside him.

He pulls out some sort of thin folio with one sheet of parchment on it. The parchment is perfectly white, except for what looks like very crisp letters that look like no handwriting you have ever seen before.

He proceeds to rattle off a list of exploits of your youth. Stories of you getting into trouble, solving problems, getting out of trouble. Not necessarily in order. He pauses, looks up up and down and then says, “Was all this you and is this true?”

You nod silently. “Thank you.” He says. He stands, affixes his useless, but strangely elegant helmet to his head and makes a small bow. “You will be contacted.”

You feel a burning sensation on your right forearm and a small tattoo appears. When you look up, you see the door to the pub closing.

Later that night, you realize that no amount of soap or scrubbing will remove this new mark. When you look at it and think, you can see it start to swirl. It seems you can make it into an aesthetically pleasing shape with only minimal burning. It’s fun to change it around and you try out different styles of tattoos to get to one that you can live with.

Hiring Process Next Steps:
Please note in your background what type of tattoo you would like. Feel free to make it relevant to your character and upload a photo if you wish!

Please consider your background and tell me what you are doing right at the moment that our game begins. You can be doing whatever you wish— no boundaries.

While searching the Reaching Woods between Scornubel and Berdusk for clues to a sick boy’s illness, Brixa, Rowan, Lord and Bararis discovered strange objects hanging from the trees.006.jpg

Three of these small fetishes were hanging near each other, while two hung from another tree nearby.

A feeling of unease went down Rowan’s spine.

What is the meaning of these small representations? Why were they there?

The questions remain unanswered.

Interoffice Memo: Solution Squad 43312
From the Desk of: Nedemi Nitt; Assignment 98430- Missing Object 4329998b

Assignment 98430- Missing Object Assignment 4329998b
Assignment Location: Faerun, Sword Coast Region

Solution Squad 43312:

  • Dizzy (now deceased)
  • Lorde
  • Nodel
  • T’Inco
  • Brixa
  • Rolan

After accepting their assignments individually, Solution Squad #43312 were brought in for their orientation. The new teleport schemes are working well and all six staff were brought to holding in a coordinated fashion. Since they had not been formally introduced, I administered the “Kill the Rats” Introduction. They worked successfully to resolve the incident. Unfortunately, Solution Squad #44312 did not adequately appreciate the irony of the Rat Introduction. Perhaps future Solution Squad members will have previously studied Earth 3432564’s RPG Systems and will enjoy our corporate “sense of humor.”

The Solution Squad completed their Orientation Session. There were no complaints about misunderstanding the language in the presentation. I give credit to Sorcerer 32231 who achieved synergizing our tech platform with his translation magicks.

The Solution Squad then moved on to the Prime Material Plane, where they immediately met Gundren Rockseeker and Silar Highwinter. In an inadvertent setback, within seconds they lost their contacts who went ahead by horseback.

I commend them all for falling into their undercover roles as “outsourced security” for the caravan. Jones the Caravan Driver did report back that they dispatched a set of goblins who had worked in collaboration with Klarg (Bugbear)’s nest mates. They seem to have captured Rockseeker and Highwinter on orders of some third party. Please have the necrotechs do a fractal core analysis to see if we can determine the employer.

Solution Squad 43312 succeeded in recovering Highwinter and recovered a clue that Rockseeker may be at Cragmaw Castle, wherever that might be.

In a qualified measure of success, the Squad subdued Klarg but left him alive (and in significant pain- please fill out Pain Form 4.F in triplicate and submit to the Lady of Pain’s office).

The Squad is now settled in Phandalin and are preparing to interview Highwinter, try to determine the location of Cragmaw Castle and recover Rockseeker. With data provided by the aforementioned contacts, I hope that the Solution Squad will be able to identify Object 4329998b.

I formally request that the Object Filing System undergo a complete audit. It is totally inexcusable to provide so little data to a Solution Squad when they leave on a mission. I believe that this lack of credible knowledge led to Solution Squad 43311 going missing. I think that the fetishes (See attachment below) found at Solution Squad 43311’s last location are a Red Herring and not related to the complications on Thule.

Nedemi Nitt

According to our Matrix Sorcerer team, timelines are running strangely between Sigil and Faerun. The team is having issues calculating the actual timeline taking place on Faerun and how much time has taken place here. Initial reports indicate that time seems to be significantly slower in Faerun than Sigil. I have requested a memo of explanation from the Matrix Sorcerer Team Lead. In the ensuing two months since my last report, there has been no messages of note from the Solution Squad.

Based on my previous report, I expect Solution Squad 44312 to meet with Silar Highwinter and try to discover the location of Gudrun Rockseeker who could then lead them to our missing object #4329998b. Please see my formal request for the OFS Audit. (How has that not started yet?)

I need the Solution Squad to move effectively and quickly as the Office of Solutioning is proposing that another team would be an effective tool to speed the search. I have registered my grievance with our Lady of Pain that the Office of Solutioning is overreaching its mandate. Their Mission Statement clearly states that the Office of Solutioning is for internal Sigil issues only.

Perhaps the Office of Solutioning would be better suited trying to identify the cause of our Lady of Pains recent illness. I have filled out and submitted the paperwork recommending that the Office of External Solutioning partner with the Office of Solutioning to investigate if the cause of the her recent malady can be linked back to the Thule Situation. I expect a response shortly.

Interoffice Memo 3: Solution Squad 43312

Solution Squad 44312:

  • Dax
  • Rolan

Well, thank goodness for holidays. We have determined that Solution Squad 44312 is on Faerun on Midsummer, 1491. I have received a memo of explanation from Matrix Sorcerer, Jephra Kole, and it is totally unacceptable. I have filled out paperwork for his transfer for Pain Realignment.

The remaining team of Matrix Sorcerers are casting to realign our timelines which should allow smoother communications with Solution Squad 43312.

After determining that there are many issues in the surrounding area of Phandalin, the Solution Squad began an engagement with the Redbrand Ruffians that are causing havoc in the town. Perhaps by solving a few of the lingering, petty issues of the town, there is an opportunity to gain more detail about Gundrun Rockseeker and the location of his mine, and possibly the missing artifact.

I have not heard a response from the Office of Solutioning to my memo regarding their ill-advised attempt to send a team to find Artifact 4329998b. I am quietly concerned that the Lady, in her weakened state, may approve their request and allow Esa Tania access to the Faerun Gateway.

To aid our Solution Squad, I am providing an incentive bonus. If one or any of the team choose to write an Adventure Log telling the story so far from their character’s point of view, they will receive a “Tears of Phara” bonus. (An inspiration point). If all team members report back, all will receive a bonus inspiration point.

I believe that expending this resource will provide us greater detail on the missing item and the psychological effects of Solution Squad work.

Interoffice Memo 4: Solution Squad 43312
The end of Midsummer's Day

Solution Squad 44312:

Nodel
T’Inco
Dax

As Midsummer Day, 1491, closes on Faerun, I am pleased to report that Solution Squad 44312 has made solid progress in a short amount of time.

After pursuing the so-called “Redbrand Ruffians” (who would name themselves that?) and making an assault on the hideout of the gang, the Solution Squad has determined some key facts:

  • Someone with the signet of a Black Spider has recruited the Redbrand Ruffians to try to stop the forward motion of our Squad. This is excellent news because it means that we are closing in on our missing artifact.
  • Iarno Albrecht was acting as “Glasstaff”, head of the Ruffians. He escaped during an unfortunate pause to consider a rat. I don’t hold it against the Squad. The Office of External Solutioning does not have a strong opinion on the politics and livelihood of a backwater town on a backwater world of the multiverse.
  • The Solution Squad has elicited a number of leads to find the artifact:
  • * Locate Rockseeker in Cragmaw Castle
  • * Ask the Druid in Thundertree
  • * Find Glasstaff and potentially beat the answer out of him

I will be sending a memorandum to the group instructing them to prepare well for their trip through the wilderness to find Artifact 4329998b. The world of Faerun holds some interesting challenges:

  • Food supply and water must be specifically measured and managed for each day
  • Arrows are consumable and will not last forever
  • Carrying gold and supplies will be problematic and plans must be developed to manage those supplies

I am providing a trunk that can stay at the Inn which will safely store any supplies they need to hold in reserve. Matrix Sorcerer Jephra Kole’s Pain Realignment was successful and his progress over the last two weeks of our time has slightly offset his previous failures. I’m amazed at the magic he can create while missing two fingers.

I look forward to receiving updates from the Solution Squad in the new journals that Jephra Kole’s team have devised.

In closing, I would like to reiterate AGAIN my disappointment that our Lady of Pain has not reviewed my memo regarding the Esa Tania and the Office of Solutioning’s move to send a team to resolve the situation with Artifact 4329998b. I understand that our Lady is not feeling well but the progress of our Solution Squad could be undermined by another team. If it is at all possible, please route this memo to the top of her daily portfolio. And please remind her of my desire to assist her with the Thule situation.

Solution Squad 44312:

Solution Squad 43312 had an unexpected speed bump in their progress today. The morning was spent working on supplying and I am impressed with the foresight they are using to plan for a multi-day adventure. Faerun is a dangerous place and preparation is everything.

Following the morning supply run, the squad was approached by an angry mob led by Daran Edermath. It appears the Redbrand situation was not resolved to the towns liking as the thugs returned to wreak havoc on the town and kidnap Halia Thornton, owner of the Phandalin Miners Exchange.

Edermath was sufficiently upset that he raised a mob and accosted the Solution Squad as they were about to ride out of town. The mob took Nodel hostage and demanded that the Squad search for Halia and find her. The consequences for Nodel were not explicitly stated, but I surmise that it would have been more to the Lady of Pain’s liking than to mine.

The remaining squad proceeded rapidly to the Exchange to start looking for clues. They found the shop ransacked and tracks leading out the back to Halia’s house. Upon arriving at the cottage, they found scenes of a fight and one small book missing and a trail of boot prints leading out the back and south through a field to the woods.

At this point, I’d like to commend Mr. Kyoji on his instincts to move quickly and, dare I say, brashly, to rescue Halia. He seemed well motivated to solve this issue and continue on his task of finding the missing artifact. I am sending out one Tears of Phara for him to use in case of an emergency. I was immediately reminded of his chase to save his friend, Ital. His approach to move quickly likely saved Nodel from an untimely death.

Mr. Kyoji lead the group as a driving thunderstorm came up. The group moved rapidly through the woods as the rain became a torrent. They had an unexpected turn of events when Mr. Kyoji leaped over a boulder, only to have it look up and be revealed as an ogre. The ogre had killed one Redbrand and was eating a drumstick (Redbrandstick?— I’m not sure what the translation of a human leg is. Common is a ludicrously imprecise language.)

The squad immediately and efficiently neutralized the barrier and found the trail again. Mr. Kyoji was the first to arrive at the campfire where Halia was being held by Glasstaff and four Redbrands. He assaulted them while his team performed backup. At this point there was interference from the storm. Judging from Rolan’s new scar on his chest, there was an incident. Trace magic indicates some healing to Rolan. It must have happened quickly as the TechnoSorcerer’s could not log the injury with the proper forms. We will be sending Lorde some paperwork to fill us on in the wound that I can only presume he healed.

Glasstaff attempted to flee when he realized that he was on the verge of being overpowered. The team captured him through extremely quick thinking on the part of T’Inco who immediately cast a detect magic and traced the wizard’s Misty Step escape.

After subduing Glasstaff and taking him prisoner, the Squad questioned Halia. When concerns arose, I commend Lorde for taking the direct path and forcing Halia to produce information about why she was kidnapped. I’ll be working with Roland to determine what was the contents of the book. He seemed to have some understanding of what is going on.

Halia was then returned to the mob and Glasstaff was turned over to Silar Highwinter for Faerun-style justice. Nodel was released and the group will spend the night at the Inn and leave on the morning of 2 Elensis 1491.

Now that this unexpected challenge has been overcome, I look forward to seeing the group move forward with reacquiring Artifact 4329998b.

As a reminder, the open items are:

  • Locate Rockseeker in Cragmaw Castle
  • Ask the Druid in Thundertree for the location of Cragmaw
  • Find Glasstaff and potentially beat the answer out of him (still an open possibility with his recent apprehension)
  • Determine who the Black Spider is and why he hopes to stop the forward motion of the Solution Squad.
  • Possibly help Sister Garele with her question for Agathe, the banshee

Reminder! The world of Faerun holds some interesting challenges:

Food supply and water must be specifically measured and managed for each day
Arrows are consumable and will not last forever
Carrying gold and supplies will be problematic and plans must be developed to manage those supplies

I look forward to receiving updates from the Solution Squad in the new journals that Jephra Kole’s team have devised.

In closing, I determined that the Office of Solutioning’s team have been dispatched to Faerun to find Artifact 4329998b. I have filed an addendum to my complaint against Esa Tania. Her blatant disregard for process is unacceptable. I will be forced to send a third memo if she sends a team to Thule. Please don’t make me do that.

Solution Squad 44312:

You know a memo starts off badly when you invoke luck. And Solution Squad 44312 has had the worst. At roughly midnight, 2 Elensis, our scrying sorcerers realized that Lorde had been badly poisoned. Luckily Toblen Stonehill was able to secure the aid of Sister Garaele to concoct a remedy and save his life. The type of poison, method and reason for the attack remain unknown.

In the day that followed, the Solution Squad chose to assist in discovering why an ogre was found nearby Phandalin the previous day. They followed the path only to find another flattened circle with the Fetishes positioned at the compass marks of the circle.

I regret to inform you that our Matrix Sorcerers again failed to contribute to this report. It seems that once the solution squad picked up some object inside the circle of flattened stones, some sort of chaos ensued. T’Inco passed out while each member of the team seemed to have a vision of some sort. Matrix Sorcerer, Jephra Kole, will be transferred for a second pain realignment session.

After the strange discovery that was remarkably similar to their previous experience, the group picked up the trail of the ogres and followed it to a nest where an ogress was pleading with a Hill Giant for aid in revenge for her dead mate.

The Solution Squad intervened and effectively dispatched the Hill Giant after a grueling fight and, pursuing the Ogress into the nest, terminated her as well. The only unexpected outcome was the discovery of a dead ogre baby. Apparently, the ogress knew she would not be taken alive.

I am impressed with the Solution Squad using time effectively and, potentially, making their home base of Phandalin a slightly more hospitable and safe environment. I do think that some concern should be taken that the town does not become reliant on the Squad for every little need.

I expect that on 3. Elensis, 1491, the team will depart to ascertain the location of Artifact 4329998b.

I have asked them via Matrix Sorcerer (not Mr. Kole), to please provide me with their inventory of supplies for the journey. I look forward to measuring their efficiency and seeing if the team will be the right fit for future assignments.

As a reminder, the open items are:

Ask the Druid in Thundertree for the location of Cragmaw
Locate Rockseeker in Cragmaw Castle
Find Glasstaff and potentially beat the answer out of him (still an open possibility with his recent apprehension)
Determine who the Black Spider is and why he hopes to stop the forward motion of the Solution Squad.
Possibly help Sister Garele with her question for Agathe, the banshee
Determine the motive and method for Lorde’s poisoning

Session 1- Tomb of Annihilation
Background

Interoffice Memo

Attn: Rangar Highcliff- Interim Head of the office of External Solutioning

With the recent disappearance of Solution Squad #2944- the Company of the Yellow Banner (CotYB), the situation in Chult has escalated beyond expectations. I am formally requesting Solution Squad 3432 be assigned to the disappearance of the CotYB.

Solution Squad 3432 is slightly more experienced than some of our other squads in Faerun. With the offer of this mission, we can likely add Nakaan to the team. He has been reticent to join the squad, turning down multiple offers. I believe that with the death curse now affecting his father, we may have the leverage we need to bring him into the fold.

As usual, we will begin tracking the mission once Solution Squad 3432 arrives in Chult.

Background:
Solution Squad #2944- The Company of the Yellow Banner went missing while on a mission to determine the source of a Death Curse that is causing those resurrected mortals in Faerun from to decay and their souls disappear. This Death Curse has caused mayhem in the other planes. I have received numerous memos, from irate Devils and Angels who are not receiving incoming souls as scheduled.

Squad 2944 included:

  • Lord Brixton (Human Knight)
  • Bravis Boulderborn (Dwarf Cleric of Morodin)
  • Seward (Human Ranger)
  • Sepherius (Dragonborn Paladin)
  • Delvin Bashir (Human Wizard)
  • Biff Longsteel (Human Fighter)

The squad arrived in Chult on a chartered a ship to Pt. Nyanzaru. After connecting with the Harpers, they traveled south into the jungles, only to disappear.

Airship “Star Goddess” was deployed over Chult to search for the group and disappeared as well. I have filed form 4329a in regard to this missing airship and crew.

My subsequent memos will cover the work of Solution Squad 3432.

Respectfully submitted,
Royston Farham Provist
